Family Adoption Program - Departments of Community Medicine

Dec 27, 2025

Family adoption program aims to provide an experiential learning opportunity to Indian Medical Graduates towards community-based healthcare and thereby enhance equity in health.

On December 27, 2025, the Department of Community Medicine, FAMEH&RI conducted the inauguration of Family Adoption Program. First year MBBS students were allocated families under the Family Adoption Program across the villages of Handanahalli and Ankanahalli. Under the guidance of faculty and the coordination of Medical Social Worker and Health Inspector, 100 students were officially assigned five families each, with 70 students stationed in Handanahalli and 30 in Ankanahalli. This field initiative provided students with their first opportunity to engage directly with their adopted households, allowing them to establish rapport and begin the vital process of baseline data collection. By integrating students into these communities, the program successfully laid the groundwork for long-term health monitoring and personalized medical support for the villagers.
